This area is in the center of Kyoto city which with Kyoto station as a gateway into Kyoto. Shijo area is the business quarter of Kyoto and Nishiki Market is the "kitchen" of Kyoto. There are two sightseeing routes which we recommend, one is from Yasaka Shrine going through Maruyama Park to Kiyomizudera Temple, the other course is from Ginkakuji Temple through Walk of Philosophy to Nanzenji Temple.

We recommend Uji in this area. Uji area is famous for its The Tale of Genji, there are many footprints and other evidence of Heian noblemen living at Byodoin Temple and other places. The Tale of Genji museum is very popular for its exhibits.

Kyoto has another face at nighttime-illuminations. Many historic sites are illuminated every season, so you can feel a fantastic atmosphere. Especially, the cherry blossoms of Gion Shirakawa at night in spring and Kodaiji Temple at night in autumn are fantastic too.
