This area is in the center of Kyoto city which with Kyoto station as a gateway into Kyoto. Shijo area is the business quarter of Kyoto and Nishiki Market is the "kitchen" of Kyoto.
In this area there is Nijo castle which is very popular with tourists and also
Shokokuji Temple which is famous for its Jyotenkaku Museum.
There is Kamigamojinja Shrine and Shimogamojinja Shrine which are World Heritage
sites in this area. In addition there is Kifune which is famous for its "seats on the river"
in summer and Kuramadera Temple which is famous for Ushiwakamaru(A famous
historical figure).
This area is the most popular in Kyoto.
There is Chion-in Temple, Kenninji Temple and Konkaikoumyoji Temple in this
area. There are two sightseeing routes which we recommend, one is from Yasaka Shrine
going through Maruyama Park to Kiyomizudera Temple, the other course is
from Ginkakuji Temple through Walk of Philosophy to Nanzenji Temple.
This area has Mt.Arashiyama which is "must-visit" area and the Sagano bamboo forest.
There are many visitors regardless of season in this area.
Among them, Tenryuji Temple, Ninnaji Temple and Ryoanji Temple
as a World Heritage are "must-sees".
We recommend Uji in this area.
Uji area is famous for its The Tale of Genji, there are many footprints and other evidence of Heian noblemen living at Byodoin Temple and other places.
The Tale of Genji museum is very popular for its exhibits.
Kyoto has another face at nighttime-illuminations.
Many historic sites are illuminated every season, so you can feel a fantastic atmosphere.
Especially, the cherry blossoms of Gion Shirakawa at night in spring and Kodaiji Temple
at night in autumn are fantastic too.
In spring, everything begins to come alive-cherry blossoms in Kyoto are very special
and always stir the emotions.
A sightseeing route which we recommend is from Heianjingu shrine via Okazaki Canal to Keage Incline and along the avenue of cherry blossoms which is the Walk of Philosophy.
Autumn in Kyoto is crowded with many visitors.
The places we recommend that you visit if possible are Eikando Temple and Shinnyodo
Temple in the East area and Ryoanji Temple, Gioji Temple and Nison-in Temple in the West area.
The flower of the plum tells us that springtime has started in Kyoto.
Especially, Jounangu Shrine and Zuishin-in in the South area are "must-sees".
